Hilton Head (KHXD) Airport - No landing fees for private pilots

Good news for those of us who enjoy flying to HXD for lunch/dinner. The Beaufort Country Airport Board decided not to charge private pilots a landing fee which had previously been part of the plan to make the airport more self sustaining.

Signature Aviation has always been opposed to the fee. In my experience Signature Aviation has consistently provided friendly and professional service. Wonderful restaurants are just a short drive from the airport.

Playing in the snow

Bob Jones of Alaska demonstrates ski flying in the Zenith STOL CH-701. Check out the angle of attack at 2:19!

Christmas Dinner

We had a great time at the Chapter 477 Christmas dinner on the 10th, including listening to Earl Fisher's presentation about growing up around Americas test plane program at Muroc, California in the 1940s. Below is Earl's Dad (Earl Sr.) assisting a P-59 pilot. A report will be in our January newsletter.

Quadrotor Construction

An experiment using RC quadrotor helicopters to assemble a structure. I think these are controlled by computers, not humans.

Long Exhaust!

Brett spotted this interesting Cessna 206 at JZI last month. I has a high resolution camera in the cabin floor, so they routed the exhaust around the lens to prevent image distortion. (click to enlarge)
